Apotheker and D-tree Lead Discussion on Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships at the 11th Tanzania Health Summit

The 11th Tanzania Health Summit took place from October 1st to 3rd, 2024, at the Zanzibar International Trade Fair (ZITF) in Fumba, under the theme: “Igniting Progress: Joining Efforts for Quality Healthcare through Public-Private Partnerships.” The summit brought together key healthcare stakeholders to explore collaborative strategies for improving healthcare access and delivery in Tanzania.

As part of this high-profile event, Apotheker and D-tree led a panel discussion focused on Strengthening Public-Private Partnerships (PPP) to enhance healthcare coordination and access. Our panel, held from 12:30 pm to 2:00 pm, centered around the innovative Afya-Tek program. Afya-Tek is a collaboration between Apotheker and D-tree that aims to create a continuum of care by linking private Accredited Drug Dispensing Outlets (ADDOs) with public Community Health Workers (CHWs) and primary health facilities. The program is building local healthcare capacity through standardized protocols, improved referral systems, and data-driven decision-making, ensuring long-term, sustainable impacts.

Apotheker’s Commitment to Improving Healthcare

At Apotheker, we were proud to take part in this year’s Tanzania Health Summit alongside @wizara_afyatz, @PO-RALG, and other key organizations. Our focus on Public-Private Partnerships during the discussion is closely aligned with the summit’s theme and our own mission to strengthen healthcare services through collaboration. As Hon. Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, emphasized in his closing remarks, the role of partnerships between public and private sectors is critical in improving healthcare quality and access across the country.

Notable Panelists and Insights

Our panel featured several distinguished experts, each bringing unique insights to the table:

  • Dr. Angel Dillip discussed the Afya-Tek program and its potential to transform Tanzania’s healthcare landscape.
  • Mark Tanda highlighted the significance of data utilization and system interoperability with GOTHOMIS, Tanzania’s health information system.
  • Dr. Ntuli Kapologwe elaborated on Afya-Tek’s role in supporting the delivery of primary healthcare.
  • Dr. Wilbord Kondo underscored the importance of ownership by Council Health Management Teams (CHMTs) to ensure the success and sustainability of the program.

The session demonstrated how initiatives like Afya-Tek can effectively integrate private and public healthcare sectors to streamline access to essential health services, benefiting communities across Tanzania.

A Moment of Pride for Apotheker

We were honored to receive an Award of Appreciation from Dr. Jeremie Zoungrana, Board Member of the Tanzania Health Summit (THS), for our participation in this year’s event. It was a proud moment for Apotheker as we continue contributing to platforms that advance health solutions in Tanzania.
